We are in British Columbia and Yukon; the State Council is in its 114th year, there are 118 Councils and a membership of over 13255 members. We are in Canada, on the West Coast, North of Washington, East of Alaska.
Our order was founded on the principles of charity, unity and fraternity. The Knights of Columbus was established in 1882 by Father Michael J. McGivney, assistant pastor of St. Mary’s Church in New Haven, Conn., and with a group of parishioners. Their intent? To bring financial aid and assistance to the sick, disabled and needy members and their families in the Community. Today, Blessed Michael McGivney is being considered for sainthood.
The organisation has over 2.1 million members around the world, we have been investing our time, effort and resources into our values of charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism since 1882.
The history of the Order shows how the foresight of Father Michael J. McGivney, whose cause for sainthood is being investigated by the Vatican, brought about what has become the world’s foremost Catholic fraternal benefit society. The Order has helped families obtain economic security and stability through its life insurance, annuity and long-term care programs, and has contributed time and energy worldwide to service in communities.
The Knights of Columbus has grown from several members in one council to more than 14,000 councils throughout the United States, Canada, the Philippines, Mexico, Poland, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Panama, the Bahamas, the Virgin Islands, Cuba, Guatemala, Guam and Saipan.
